As part of the series of collectors coins struck to commemorate and help finance teh XXI Olympiad, two separate $100 gold coins were issued in 1976. The reverse design for each shows an ancient Grecian athlete beign crowned with laurel by the goddess Pallas Athena. The uncirculated edition (brilliant relief/brilliant background) is 14KT gold and has rim denticles. The proof edition (frosted relief, mirror background) is 22KT gold, slightly smaller, and lacks rim denticles.
